Abstract
Conclusive identification of tryptamine in human urine is presented and a simple fluorometric method for its measurement in urine is described.
Tryptamine is derived from tryptophan by decarboxylation in the tissues and appears to be metabolized predominantly by monoamine oxidase.
The level of urinary tryptamine is shown to be a sensitive index of monoamine oxidase inhibition in man.
