Abstract
To evaluate the respiratory effects of morphine and atropine a factorial designed study was carried out. Displacement of the alveolar ventilation, alveolar Pco2 curves, was analyzed statistically. The results show that 10 mgm. of morphine is a respiratory depressant, but that 0.6 mgm. of atropine, contrary to common teachings, is not a respiratory stimulant.
