Abstract
1. The inhibitory effect of neostigmine and Ro 2-683 on procaine esterase was compared using procaine hydrochloride and 2-chloroprocaine hydrochloride as substrates.
2. It was found that both Ro 2-683 and neostigmine are potent inhibitors of procaine esterase. In low concentrations Ro 2-683 was about five times as potent as neostigmine.
3. The inhibitory effect of both neostigmine and Ro 2-683 was due to competitive inhibition.
