Abstract
1. The action of 2,2-diethyl 1,3-propanediol, a compound structurally related to mephenesin, has been examined in mice, rats, rabbits and cats.
2. Observations demonstrating the effectiveness of the drug as an anticonvulsant against Metrazol, strychnine and electric shock have been described.
3. It has been shown that diethyl propanediol depresses the flexion and crossed extension reflexes in both intact anesthetized and in unanesthetized spinal cats without exerting any marked effect upon the normal knee jerk. These findings have been considered as evidence consistent with a selective depression of multisynaptic neurone arcs in the spinal cord.
