A NEW APPARATUS AND PROCEDURE FOR CONTINUOUS REGISTRATION OF CHANGES IN CORONARY FLOW CONCURRENTLY WITH CHANGES IN HEART CONTRACTIONS

F. C. Lu 1 and K. I. Melville 1

1 Department of Pharmacology, McGill University, Montreal, Canada

Details of a new apparatus and its method of use for recording continuously and concurrently changes in the rate of coronary inflow and heart contractions, using the isolated perfused hearts of rabbits and dogs, are described. Either oxygenated Locke's solution or oxygenated defibrinated blood may be used as the perfusing fluid.

Registration of changes in coronary flow and heart contractions can be made by means of a kymographic technic.

From the records obtained changes in coronary flow per heart beat as occurring over any given period can be calculated.
