THE ACTION OF MORPHINE IN SLOWING THE PULSE

BENJAMIN H. ROBBINS 1, O. GARTH FITZHUGH 1, and JAMES H. BAXTER JR. 1

1 From the Department of Pharmacology, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, Tennessee

1. The question of the primary site of action of morphine in producing bradycardia and cardiac irregularities in dogs has been reinvestigated, on 7 dogs.

2. In contrast to McCrea and Meek (3), who reported that the site of primary action was in the cerebrum, our results show that the primary action is in the medulla.

3. An explanation for the differences in the results of the study by McCrea and Meek (3) and our own is given.
