ON THE THERAPEUTIC ASSAY OF NEOARSPHENAMINE WITH TRYPANOSOMA EQUIPERDUM

C. A. MORRELL 1, C. W. CHAPMAN 1, and M. G. ALLMARK 1

1 From the Laboratory of Hygiene, Department of Pensions and National Health, Ottawa, Canada

1. A method for testing the therapeutic potency of neoarsphenamine preparations in terms of a standard by means of dosage-response curves is described.

2. White rats infected with T. equiperdum were used as test material.

3. There is less time and labor involved in the method described than in other methods currently in use for this purpose, since results are obtained five hours after injecting neoarsphenamine, and it is unnecessary to count the number of trypanosomes in each rat before use.

4. The results obtained by the method in the assay of some market samples are reported.

5. The errors of the method have been computed and are shown to be small.

6. A discussion is given of various methods of arranging the test and calculating the results and their errors.
