THE RESPIRATORY EFFECTS OF MORPHINE, CODEINE AND RELATED SUBSTANCES V. THE EFFECT OF agr, beta, ugr, DIHYDRO-agr-, DIHYDRO-beta- AND DIHYDRO-ugr-ISOMORPHINE ON THE RESPIRATION OF THE RABBIT

CHARLES I. WRIGHT 1 and FLEMING A. BARBOUR 1

1 From the Laboratory of Pharmacology, University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Michigan

(1) agr-Isomorphine, (2) dihydro-agr-isomorphine, (3) beta-isomorphine, (4) dihydro-beta-isomorphine, (5) ugr-isomorphine, and (6) dihydro-ugr-isomorphine have been compared as to their effectiveness in decreasing the rabbit's respiratory rate, minute volume and sensitivity to carbon dioxide. The minimum subcutaneous doses (mgm. per kgm. of base) required to depress the respiratory mechanism of the rabbit are approximately (1) 0.55, (2) 0.4, (3) 8.0, (4) 0.55, (5) 8.0 and (6) 5.3.
