THE INTRACISTERNAL MINIMUM LETHAL DOSE OF PROCAINE HYDROCHLORIDE (NOVOCAIN) IN DOGS

FRANK WANG COTUI 1

1 From the Department of Surgical Research, New York University and Bellevue Medical College, New York City

1. The minimal lethal dose of procaine hydrochloride; that is, the dose which causes paralysis of the respiratory center, when injected into the cisterna magna of dogs, bears a closer relationship to the spinal length than to the weight of the dog.

2. In the sample of procaine hydrochloride thus tested (Metz) the m.l.d. lay between 1.3 and 1.5 mgm. per centimeter spinal length.1
