THE INTERACTION OF HISTAMIN AND NICOTINE ON THE INTESTINE

FREDERICK BERNHEIM 1

1 From the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, N. C.

1. There is a quantitative antagonism between histamin and nicotine on the intestine of the guinea pig. If the amount of relaxation in millimeters caused by nicotine is multiplied by the ratio of the amount histamin to nicotine a constant is obtained.

2. The mechanism of the action of nicotine on the intestine is discussed.
