NOTES ON THE POISONOUS SECRETIONS OF TWELVE SPECIES OF TOADS

K. K. CHEN 1 and A. LING CHEN 1

1 From the Lilly Research Laboratories, Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis

A description of the general characteristics of twelve species of toads, their "parotid" glands, and their expressed secretion, has been given. This includes the measurement of their body weights and lengths, the maximal widths and lengths of their parotid glands, and the determination of the water content in the secretions of 10 species. Fresh secretions contain from 39 to 49 per cent of the dry material.
