THE TOXIC ACTION OF p-DIAZOIMINOBENZENE HYDROCHLORIDE AND OF ITS ADDITIVE COMPOUND WITH CUPRIC CHLORIDE

1. p-Diazoiminobenzene hydrochloride and its additive copper chloride compound are both toxic to most laboratory animals.

2. Pericardial effusion and mediastinal edema are common features in mammals in the chronic types of death due to either substance.

3. The main causes of acute death is damage to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

4. Both substances reduce the temperature in the normal rabbit and in fatal cases this reduction is very marked. p-Diazoiminobenzene hydrochloride reduced the temperature of rabbits with experimentally induced fever.

5. Changes also occurred in the water content of the blood during the action of both substances.

6. Both substances have a direct toxic action on isolated tissues such as the heart, uterus and intestine.

7. p-Diazoiminobenzene hydrochloride may increase the blood sugar but may later reduce it very considerably.
