THE EFFECT OF BENZYL ESTERS ON THE INTACT INTESTINE OF NON-ANESTHETIZED DOGS

C. M. GRUBER 1, C. S. DRAYER 1, W. M. CRAWFORD 1, and W. W. GREENE 1

1 From the Department of Pharmacology, Washington University, School of Medicine, Saint Louis, Missouri

1. Benzyl-esters do not affect the intact intestine in non-anesthetized dog in the same manner as they do excised rabbit intestine exposed to the drug.

2. In our experiments benzyl-acetate injected intravenously caused an increase in the rate and vigor of the peristaltic contractions, as a rule, though one animal showed a decrease in general tonus.
