ON THE GROWTH-PROMOTING HORMONE OF THE PITUITARY BODY

H. B. VAN DYKE 1 and ZONJA WALLEN-LAWRENCE 1

1 From the Pharmacological Laboratory, The University of Chicago

1. A method for making a potent growth-promoting extract (Phyone) of the anterior lobes of beef pituitary bodies is described. Such an extract is suitable for clinical use.

2. The extract appears to be free from luteinizing principle.

3. The biological assay of this extract by the use of hypophysectomized or normal adult rats is discussed.
