VARIATIONS IN BLOOD PRESSURE INDUCED BY REPEATED INJECTIONS OF EXTRACTS OF THE POSTERIOR LOBE OF THE PITUITARY GLAND

The fall in blood pressure obtained with subsequent injections of depressor-free pituitary extracts given at short intervals and in doses considerably larger than the initial injection is an intrinsic property of the post pituitary hormone, and is probably due to the marked alteration in the cardio-vascular apparatus resulting from the first dose. This "inversion effect" is accordingly not due to the presence of depressor bodies, as is maintained by Hogben and Schlapp.
