STUDIES ON THE CARDIAC OUTPUT OF THE DOG II. THE INFLUENCE OF ATROPINE AND CARBON DIOXIDE ON THE CIRCULATION OF THE UNANESTHETIZED DOG

The marked increase in pulse rate produced by administration of small doses of atropine is without influence on the minute volume of the circulation in the normal unanesthetized dog.

A moderate increase of the carbon dioxide in the inspired air (3 to 5 per cent) does not change the minute volume, while breathing higher concentrations causes, if anything, a slight decrease.
