INFLUENCE OF MENOTOXIN ON THE COAGULATION OF BLOOD

DAVID I. MACHT 1

1 From the Pharmacological Laboratory, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland

1. Menstrual serum delayed the clotting of dog's and human blood as compared with normal serum tested on similar preparations.

2. Oxycholesterin and cholic acid caused prolongation of coagulation time, the cholic acid being much more active than oxycholesterin in this respect.

3. The experiments with menstrual blood serum on the one hand and with various chemicals which are chemically related to menstrual toxin on the other hand, speak in favor of menotoxin as the causative agent of the phenomenon studied.
