EFFECTS OF MERCURIAL DIURETICS ON THE RENAL TUBULAR TRANSPORT OF p-AMINOHIPPURATE AND DIODRAST IN THE CHIMPANZEE

GEORGE M. FANELLI JR. 1, DENNIS L. BOHN 1, and SHEILA S. REILLY 1

The mercurial diuretics mersalyl and chlormerodrin depress the maximal tubular transport of p-aminohippurate and Diodrast in the chimpanzee. This effect is not seen in the mongrel dog. The marked depression of the maximal tubular transport of p-aminohippurate and Diodrast is strikingly similar to that noted earlier in man. The organic acid transport system is apparently quite similar in the chimpanzee and man but fundamentally different in the lower species.
