METABOLISM OF A BETA BLOCKING DRUG, OXPRENOLOL

D. A. GARTEIZ 1

1 Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Departments of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio

Oxprenolol and its N- and O-dealkylated and ring-hydroxylated metabolites have been identified in the urine of rats treated with the drug. In addition mass spectral properties are described for a trifluoroacetylated derivative of the beta-hydroxy-N- isopropylamino side chain, typical pharmacophoric group of all compounds that display beta blocking activity; these should be helpful in further research on the metabolic fate of this chemical and therapeutic class of compounds.
