RELEASE OF ANTIDIURETIC HORMONE BY BRADYKININ

M. Rocha E Silva Jr. 1 and G. Malnic 1

1 Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil

In experiments performed on trained male unanesthetized dogs, bradykinin was shown to produce antidiuresis with increased electrolyte excretion. No alterations of the renal clearances of creatinine and PAH were detected in the range of doses which are effective in inhibiting diuresis. The effects were more constant and obtained with smaller doses when the peptide was given through the intracarotid artery route rather than intravenously and was completely absent in two out of three dogs with experimental diabetes insipidus. The similarity of effects of bradykinin and ADH on water and electrolyte excretion is stressed. It is suggested that bradykinin releases antidiuretic hormone.
