A quantitative X-ray method, based on the planimetric measurement of the raliopaque gastric areas on radiographs taken at several time intervals after administration of a barium meal, was used in the evaluation of the effects on gastric emptying of the administration of levomepate [tropine (-) agr-methyltropate, TMT], in comparison with atropine and placebo. The use of this method proved to be efficient, pointed to the existence of a linear regression of the log of the radiopaque gastric area on the log of time and demonstrated that TMT is significantly more active than atropine in inhibiting gastric motility.
