INHIBITION OF THE RENAL TUBULAR TRANSPORT OF EPINEPHRINE BY THE BENZOTHIADIAZINE COMPOUNDS

Barbara Rennick 1, Marilyn Pryor 1, and Norma Yoss 1

1 Department of Physiology, Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts

The transport of epinephrine across the renal tubule in the chicken was inhibited by both diuretic and nondiuretic benzothiadiazine compounds. PAH transport was not affected by the benzothiadiazine compounds in these experiments presumably because of the low concentration ratio of inhibitor used. Epinephrine is actively transported across the renal tubule without modification.
