THE EFFECT OF ACETYLCHOLINE ON NEUROMUSCULAR TRANSMISSION IN THE FROG

Sergio Ciani 1 and Charles Edwards 1

1 Department of Physiology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota

In the Mg-blocked frog nerve-muscle preparation, the average number of quanta released by each nerve impulse, determined statistically, was decreased by ACh. The same level of ACh reduced the tension following nerve stimulation. It is concluded that ACh block is in part due to a direct action on the presynaptic nerve terminals.
