Experimental procedures which have revealed pharmacologic characteristics of N-henzyl-3-pyrrolidyl acetate methobromide (AHR-602) are described. Among other effects, this agent caused a secondary pressor response in most animals. Although this response was enhanced rather than suppressed by the competitive type ganglion blocking agents, evidence is presented to show that the rise in blood pressure results from an excitant action of AHR-602 on sympathetic ganglia. The gangliomimetic action is further unusual in that it is very susceptible to atropine antagonism. These findings, as well as similar results reported by others for several chemical agents, suggest the presence of a ganglionic pathway other than that which is responsive to DMPP stimulation and to hexamethonium blockade.
