SEROTONIN-LIKE CARDIORESPIRATORY EFFECTS OF A SEROTONIX ANTAGONIST

D. F. J. Halmagyi 1 and H. J. H. Colebatch 1

1 Department of Medicine, University of Sydney, Sydney, N. S. W., Australia

The administration of 0.5 mg/kg 1-methyl-D-lysergic acid butanolamide (Deseril, Sandoz) in 9 sheep resulted in an increase in pulmonary arterial pressure and resistance, a rise in the mean non-elastic resistance of the lungs and a fall in lung compliance.

These changes were found to be similar to those obtained during the continuous infusion of serotonin in 2 sheep.
