THE ENZYMATIC FORMATION OF SULFOXIDES: THE OXIDATION OF CHLORPROMAZINE AND 4,4'-DIAMINODIPHENYL SULFIDE BY GUINEA PIG LIVER MICROSOMES

Chlorpromazine and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfide are oxidized to their sulfoxide derivatives by an enzyme system in guinea pig liver homogenates. The enzyme system is localized in the microsomes, and requires reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide and oxygen. The enzyme system probably is not a peroxidase.
