EFFECTS OF ATROPINE AND CARBACHOL ON LABELING OF PROTEIN FRACTIONS OF MOUSE PANCREAS IN VITRO

Carbachol in a concentration of 5 x 10-7 M has been found to enhance markedly the secretion of radioactive proteins by the intact mouse pancreas in vitro. The radioactive proteins are apparently released from various intracellular fractions including the zymogen granules and the proteins of the cytoplasmic sap.

Either by direct stimulation or by release of inhibition of a feedback mechanism, carbachol also promotes increased incorporation of radioactive amino acids into microsomal proteins and into proteins of the small zymogen granules of the pancreas.

The effects of carbachol were suppressed by the simultaneous addition to the mouse system of atropine in a concentration of 1 x 10-5 M.
