URINARY METABOLITES OF SALICYLAMIDE IN STONE-FORMERS

By means of paper chromatography and comparison with known compounds, the urinary metabolites of salicylamide in stone-forming patients were investigated. Twelve selected cases, among a larger group, in which the dose of salicylamide was 2.0 to 3.6 g daily are reported. It was indicated that 46% of the salicylamide was excreted as glucuronide and 31% as the sulfate on the average. Also, free salicylamide appeared in 50% of the cases and salicyluric acid in 40% in undetermined amounts.

In general, the salicylamide glucuronide excreted was the ether, but a small amount of ester glucuronide was determined in patients with high glucuronide outputs. This was determined by differential hydrolyses.
