The blood pressure responses to a series of pressor amines of the phenylalkylamine type are altered following reserpine administration such that amines possessing "See image in the PDF file" or
See images in PDF file
are augmented or not affected, amines possessing "See image in the PDF file" are reversibly antagonized and amines possessing "See image in the PDF file" are irreversibly supressed. This "paradoxical" action of reserpine is discussed in relation to the other agents known to produce a similar action.
