THE EFFECT OF HISTAMINE ON NEUROMYAL BLOCKING AGENTS

Eric A. Schenk 1 and Edmund G. Anderson 1

1 Department of Pharmacology, University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle

Histamine by intraarterial, but not intravenous, injection has been shown to antagonize depolarizing type and potentiate nondepolarizing type neuromyal block of the cat tibialis anticus muscle.

This effect is not related to blood pressure changes produced by histamine nor is it due to released epinephrine.
