The general pharmacologic actions of EMOA (ethylmethyl isooctenyl amine), a new parasympathetic ganglionic blocking agent, are reported.
The drug was found to produce: 1) Antispasmodic action greater than Octin, ephedrine and papaverine. 2) Inhibition of histamine induced gastric secretion. 3) Blocking of cardiac response to vagal stimulation. 4) No atropine like blocking of injected acetylcholine. 5) No certain evidence of blocking of sympathetic ganglia, though the possibility is not definitely excluded. 6) Lowering of blood pressure probably by a direct effect on the heart, not accompanied by changes in frequency. 7) Blocking of depressor response to injected tetraethylammonium. 8) Slight stimulation of the central nervous system.
