BLOOD PRESSURE RESPONSES TO EPINEPHRINE IN DOGS WITH CERTAIN HUMORAL BACKGROUNDS

Gale C. Boxill 1 and Robert V. Brown 1

1 Division of Pharmacology, University of Tennessee, Memphis, Tennessee

Either at the 1 or the 5 microgm. dose level, or at both levels, dogs with intact ovaries, in estrus from estradiol, showed greater blood pressure responses to epinephrine than did males, metestrus females or oöphorectomized dogs, whether in estrus or not.

Among these five groups, there were no significant differences in the level of the control blood pressure.

There were no significant differences in blood pressure responses to epinephrine among the following groups of dogs: males; metestrus dogs; oöphorectomized dogs, whether in estrus or not.

Daily doses of agr-estradiol, 15 microgm./kgm., in intact or three week post- oöphorectomized dogs, when given daily by intramuscular injection, will produce a typical estrous vaginal smear in from six to eight days.
