THE ANTIDIURETIC ACTION OF PROTOVERATRINE, AND ITS MECHANISM IN DOGS

William P. Blackmore 1

1 Department of Pharmacology, University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas

Protoveratrine in doses of 3 micrograms per kgm. of body weight was administered to unanesthetized normal and diabetes insipidus dogs. In contrast to the response in normal dogs there was no change in urine flow in diabetes insipidus animals. These results indicate that protoveratrine stimulated release of the antidiuretic hormone in the dog under conditions described in this study.
