Mephentermine was studied on the isolated, perfused frog heart and compared with epinephrine, l-norepinephrine, amphetamine, d-desoxyephedrine and 1-ephedrine. Mephentermine was found to be more potent than any of these for restormg the contractility of the depressed or hypodynamic heart; moreover, in simultaneous perfusion studies it was effective in preventing or terminating epinephrine arrhythmia both in the dynamic and hypodynamic preparation.
