EFFECT OF DIURETICS ON EXPERIMENTAL HYPERTENSION IN THE RAT

F. M. Sturtevant 1 and Nancy Hansen 1

1 Biological Research, G. D. Searle & Co., Chicago 80

SC-3858 (2-amino-4-hydroxy-5-methyl-6-phenyl-pyrimidine) antagonized the pressor effect of desoxycorticosterone, and transiently reversed metacorticoid (post-DCA) hypertension in the rat. These effects were compared to those of Phenergan, Pitressin, Salyrgan, Diamox, and urea. It is suggested that the chronic administration of SC-3858 may exert an antihypertensive action at least partly through its diuretic activity.
