N-ALKYLSULFAMYLBENZOIC ACIDS: SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF A SERIES FROM P-SULFAMYLBENZOIC ACID THROUGH N-(DI-N-PROPYLSULFAMYL)-BENZOIC ACID, BENEMID, IN PLASMA AND URINE

A basic method for the determination of certain N'-alkylsulfamylbenzoic acids has been described. This depends on the fact that each compound can be extracted into either chloroform or ether from an acidic, aqueous medium and in turn reextracted into dilute sodium hydroxide which is examined spectrophotometrically in the ultraviolet range. When these drugs are added to plasma or urine and the concentration is determined according to the method described herein the recovery is approximately 95 per cent. Further evidence for the applicability of these procedures can be found in the recent publications of Beyer where the renal fate of these compounds is presented.
