THE INHIBITING EFFECT OF EPINEPHRINE AND NOREPINEPHRINE ON SECRETION INDUCED BY HISTAMINE IN SEPARATED POUCHES OF DOGS

Andrew P. M. Forrest 1 and Charles F. Code 1

1 Section of Physiology, Mayo Clinic and Mayo Foundation, Rochester, Minnesota

Continuous gastric secretion of separated pouches (Heidenhain type) in dogs in response to histamine was inhibited by the continuous intravenous injection of either epinephrine or norepinephrine. The predominant effect was a reduction in the volume of the juice with little or no change in its concentration of hydrochloric acid.
