A comparison of the hypnotic and anti-pentylenetetrazole activities of a number of acetylenic carbinols and their halogenated derivatives shows that all compounds in this series possess both types of activity in mice. However, the introduction of halogen into these compounds has a variable effect on central nervous system depression and toxicity. With a few exceptions, these variations in activity or toxicity after halogenation were found to be only of moderate scale.
