REVERSAL OF THE PRESSOR RESPONSE TO CAROTID CLAMPING BY FLUOROACETATE-FLUORIDE MIXTURES

M. N. Guruswami 1 and Maynard B. Chenoweth 1

1 Department of Pharmacology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan

1. A mixture of equal parts of sodium fluoroacetate, 10 per cent, and sodium fluoride, 5 per cent, applied to the carotid sinuses of the dog converts the pressor response to carotid clamping to a depressor response.

2. The effect was not produced by either drug alone, by local anesthesia, or by any other drug or combinations of drugs tried. It is prevented or reversed by glycerol monoacetate.
