The intravenous administration of 3-chloromercuri-2-methoxy-propylurea (Neohydrin), 3-carboxymethylthiomercuri-2-methoxy-propylurea, and 3-(alpha-carboxyethyl-alpha-thio)-mercuri-2-methoxy-propylurea causes no change in glomerular filtration rate, blood pressure or blood cell counts.
The percentage of urinary mercury excretion does not change with increasing dosage and the amount of mercury retained by the liver and kidney does not appear to cause any disturbance in physiological function. Microscopic examination of nine organs revealed lesions in the kidneys, livers, lungs and hearts, but similar pathological changes occurred with equal frequency in both control and experimental groups of animals.
