A COMPARISON OF PREPARATIONS OF NPH INSULIN

A. H. Lacey 1

1 Insulin Committee Laboratory, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada

The comparative activity of six preparations of NPH Insulin, the products of four different laboratories, was determined by means of a six-hour rabbit blood-sugar method.

It is shown that the method used is capable of differentiating between small doses of NPH Insulin.

The six NPH Insulin preparations tested were found to exhibit differences in activity of small magnitude. These differences might be anticipated from small uncontrollable differences in insulin content and it appears reasonable to assume that non-biological tests of NPH Insulin provide adequate means of ensuring constancy of the preparation from batch to batch.
