1. The citrate content of rat brain appears to have no relation to the tolerance to fluoroacetate which has been observed.
2. The citrate which accumulates in rat brain as a result of a small dose of fluoroacetate does not prevent the further formation of citrate when larger doses of fluonoacetate are given.
3. Small doses of fluoroacetate increase the resistance in rats to challenging doses of fluoroacetate or 4-fluorobutyrate. Resistance to fluoroacetate or 4-fluorobutyrate could not be evoked when rats were initially treated with small doses of 4-fluorobutyrate.
