COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE ACTION OF TWO TINCTURES OF THE DIGITALIS GROUP ON ISCHEMIC SKELETAL MUSCLE

1 Laboratorios Centrales de Investigación de la Industria Nacional Químico-Farmacéutica, México, D. F.

A comparative study has been made of the response of ischemic skeletal muscle to the action of tinctures of Nerium oleander and Digitalis purpurea.

The magnitude of the effects observed was variable from one animal to another, but its mean value was similar for both substances studied.

The dose of each substance that gave maximum muscular effects was relatively constant, and the correlation between this dose and body weight seemed to be as good as that between lethal dose and body weight.

Finally, Nerium oleander produced maximum muscular effects with a significantly smaller percentage of the lethal dose than did Digitalis purpurea.
