1. An improved quantitative method is described which utilizes ether extraction and the Fujiwara color reaction for the rapid, photoelectric estimation of chloroform in the blood.
2. Estimations of chloroform in the blood of anesthetized dogs gave values of from 18 to 50 mgm. per cent.
3. Sixty-seven blood analyses were made of peripheral venous blood from patients anesthetized by chloroform alone for major surgical procedures. The average value of chloroform was found to be 9.2 mgm. per cent.
